LARRY DAVIS
Legendary New York street figure and frequent vehicle of rap metaphors Larry Davis was murdered in prison yesterday.
Larry Davis was stabbed to death around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County, said Erik Kriss, spokesman for the New York State Department of Correctional Services.
"I don’t know what was happening at this exact moment," Kriss said, adding that prison staff were in the yard when a fight was observed and inmates began congregating. "Things happen quickly."
Davis was fatally stabbed with a homemade metal shank in the arms, head, back, upper thigh and chest, Kriss said.

10 Six-Figure Jobs without a Professional Degree
Earning $100,000 in any profession requires a combination of hard work, career training, and personal experience. These ten jobs prove that you can grow your salary to six figures without a law degree or a medical school diploma. In all ten cases, online career training programs can help you learn the skills to pursue a career with megabucks potential while continuing to build experience at your current job.
With education and will, these ten career equations offer ways to earn serious money:
#1: Marketing Manager + trend spotting = a Six-Figure Income
In today's economy, nearly every kind of enterprise requires a marketing manager to grow sales. So what makes a top manager? Professionals at the start of their marketing careers can use the best practices learned in online marketing degree programs to understand the constantly shifting landscape of sales and marketing. Having a nose for the financial news and being the first to spot a market trend means career advancement. According to government statistics, most marketing careers offer salaries and bonuses of over $100,000 at the executive level.
#2: Health Services Manager + the science of compliance = a Six-Figure Income
Complex legal requirements and pressure from insurance companies have created a demand for health services managers who can maintain compliance while maximizing profits. The top ten percent of healthcare management professionals can earn performance bonuses that raise their annual compensation packages to over $117,000. Experience managers with compliance skills will find that an online healthcare administration degree program can help them move from the job they have into a health care management position.
#3: Information Systems Manager + high goals = a Six-Figure Income
Set your sights on a CIO position if you want an information systems management position to payoff big time. If you're already a manager who likes deciding everything from hardware to personnel, pursuing a degree in IT online offers a convenient route into information systems management. Aim for the corner office and rack up some experience if you want your technology degree to yield a six-figure salary. More than half of the CIOs responding to a recent government salary survey reported annual incomes of over $100,000.
#4: Financial Manager + ethical choices = a Six-Figure Income
Having an MBA in finance is a good start, but even an MBA needs good experience and smart choices to grab a stratospheric salary as a financial manager. Today's highest paid CFOs blend career training with solid track records and high ethical standards. Finance careers in commodities brokerages offer salaries of over $120,000. Many online finance degree programs offer professionals the opportunity use work projects as research opportunities, making finance career training even more convenient.
#5: Human Resources Manager + high performance = a Six-Figure Income
In human resources, performance is golden. Successful HR managers do much more for their employers than stage recruiting fairs at local universities. By developing compensation programs and reducing employee turnover, HR managers can earn hefty bonuses. According to government statistics, the top ten percent earn over $129,000 annually. For professionals with business degrees, earning a human resource management degree online can be an exciting first step toward a job as a "talent tactician."
#6: Fashion Designer + uniquely individual style = a Six-Figure Salary
Winning "Project Runway" isn't the only way to earn $100,000 in a fashion design career. While many six-figure fashion designers may not yet be household names, they cater to clients who prefer custom couture. A high salary in a fashion design career requires more than just a fashion design degree, though. According to experts, successful designers must find a niche, market their brand, and build a loyal base of private clients.
#7: Court Reporter + overtime = a Six-Figure Salary
Even though government statistics show that many court reporters earn over $40,000 per year, some court reporters to have the chance to make much, much more money than that. Why? Document backlogs in certain cities have pushed overtime pay for court reporters to record levels. The court reporter who adds freelance transcribing for private depositions and business meetings to a base income can crack $100,000 per year. In addition to earning your bachelor's degree, most states require certification.
#8: Computer Application Development Manager + leadership = a Six-Figure Salary
Application development managers lead small teams of programmers through specific deadlines. Tight budgets and competition for graduates of computer programming degree programs keep AD managers busy. It's a career in which leadership pays. Most application development managers earn over $98,000 annually. Veteran managers skilled at getting the most out of their teams can earn a computer programming degree and make the leap to an AD management position.
#9: Nursing Supervisor + persistence in leadership = a Six-Figure Salary
At first glance, nursing schools don't seem like a rung in the mega money ladder. Still, some veteran nurses are realizing their dreams of becoming leaders in their field. By earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, experienced registered nurses can qualify for higher-paying administrative jobs, earning about $55,000 per year. Given the competition in some cities for talented nursing career professionals, that income escalates dramatically. With persistence and performance, administrators who reduce turnover and maximize compliance can now reach six-figure incomes.
#10: Education Administrator + quality assurance = a Six-Figure Salary
Under pressure to save money while reducing class sizes, many school boards recruit expert leaders from the business community to serve as education administrators. School boards expect to pay these "civilians" more, so an effective leader can turn a degree in education administration into a six-figure career. Adding a master's in education administration to an existing business degree offers enterprise professionals a new career option. Although most education administrators earn about $77,000 per year, they too can hit six figures with bonuses for improving standardized test scores and staff turnover rates.
So, where there's a will, there's a way to a six figure salary--even in fields that don't yield six figures as a rule. These ten careers not only offer earning potential far beyond the norm (which the BLS reported at just short of $36,000 in 2005), they also lure workers pursuing allied career paths into getting enough education to jump ship. Perhaps 2008 will be the year you decide to join them.

Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) -- Fidel Castro announced his resignation as president of Cuba and commander in chief of Cuba's military Tuesday, according to a letter published in the state-run newspaper, Granma.
The resignation ends nearly a half-century of iron-fisted rule that inspired revolutionaries but frustrated 10 U.S. presidents.
Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte said the U.S. embargo on Cuba will not be lifted in the near term.
Castro revealed his plans without notice by publishing a letter in the middle of the night in state-run newspaper Granma.
"I will not aspire to, nor will I accept the position of president of the council of state and commander in chief," Castro wrote. "I wish only to fight as a soldier of ideas. ... Perhaps my voice will be heard."
President Bush said Castro's decision ought to spark "a democratic transition" for Cuba.
"The international community should work with the Cuban people to begin to build institutions that are necessary for democracy and eventually this transition ought to lead to free and fair elections," Bush said Tuesday in Rwanda. "The United States will help the people of Cuba realize the blessings of liberty." Video Watch Bush's reaction to Castro's resignation »
Castro received treatment for intestinal problems two years ago and cited his "critical health condition" in the letter published Tuesday. He said "it would be a betrayal to my conscience to accept a responsibility requiring more mobility and dedication than I am physically able to offer."
He also said he realized that he had a duty to prepare Cubans for his absence.
"My wishes have always been to discharge my duties to my last breath," he said. "That's all I can offer."
Cuba's leaders plan to elect a president within days. Castro's brother, Raúl, the country's defense minister, has been named publicly as his successor.
Castro, 81, captured the world's attention at the age of 32, when he led a band of guerrillas who overthrew a corrupt dictatorship in 1959. He went on to become a thorn in Washington's side by embracing communism and cozying up to the Soviet Union.
Castro reigned in Havana with an iron hand, defying a punishing U.S. economic embargo intended to dislodge him. Video Watch what Castro's resignation means for Cuba »
Castro received treatment for intestinal problems in 2006 and transferred many powers to Raúl, who is generally seen as more pragmatic.

None of us has had to experience the pain of separation or live with the disgrace and humiliation that comes with not being free. When you cast your vote for who will run our country, never forget your history and keep this bill of sale in mind. When we allow ourselves to forget our not so distant past, then we are destined to repeat these actions in our future. Stand for those who came before us and those who could not stand up for themselves. VOTE!

TONIGHT
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will duel for Super Tuesday votes Thursday night as the Democratic presidential hopefuls face off for the first time together minus former Sen. John Edwards.
art.debate.cnn.jpg
Thursday's debate is taking place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
The debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- starts at 8 p.m. ET Thursday on CNN and CNN.com. CNN's Wolf Blitzer is the moderator.
The event is the first Democratic debate since Obama's convincing victory Saturday in South Carolina. On Tuesday, Clinton won the Florida primary, a contest her campaign said helped the senator regain momentum even though it awarded no delegates.
The forum at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood comes hours after the Obama campaign revealed it had raised $32 million in January from roughly 170,000 new donors. That amount will allow Obama to expand his television ad buys greatly in the 20-plus states holding primaries or caucuses Tuesday.
The Clinton campaign would not indicate how much money it had raised in the same time period.
Mike Gravel, the other Democratic presidential candidate still in the race, was not invited to participate in the debate because he did not meet certain criteria, including support in national polls. In a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted January 14-17, Gravel received less than 1 percent.
Edwards suspended his presidential run Wednesday in New Orleans, Louisiana, but he didn't endorse any candidate despite what aides described as furious lobbying campaigns by Obama and Clinton.
Thursday's debate may be slightly more restrained than last week's brutal showdown. Following her South Carolina loss, Clinton has largely steered clear of opportunities to take aim at Obama.
Former President Bill Clinton also has avoided criticizing his wife's rival after dominating headlines with his attacks in the days before the South Carolina vote.
The economy is likely to dominate Thursday's debate, as both candidates look to appeal to supporters of Edwards and his brand of economic populism.
Clinton and Obama have split victories in their parties' early-voting states: Obama has won in Iowa and South Carolina, and Clinton has won in New Hampshire, Nevada, Michigan and Florida. But the Michigan and Florida contests awarded no delegates, and all major Democratic presidential candidates pledged to avoid campaigning in those states following national party penalties against them for moving up their contests so early.
Clinton was the only major candidate to appear on the Michigan ballot.
Obama is leading Clinton in the number of pledged delegates -- those awarded based on primary or caucus votes. Clinton has the edge when superdelegates are factored in. (Superdelegates are party leaders and elected officials who are not obligated to support a particular candidate. They can change their decisions at any time leading up to the Democratic National Convention in August.)
advertisement
To date, Obama has won an estimated 63 national convention delegates as a result of primary or caucus votes, while Clinton has earned an estimated 48 delegates. Clinton, however, has the overall lead in delegates -- 232 to 158 -- when superdelegates are included.
With solid fundraising numbers and a nod from Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts this week, Obama will be making the claim he holds the front-runner title. But Clinton -- who has led in national surveys for much of the race -- will be making her case as well.

Lost for Words......
Maya Angelou recently expressed her support for Hillary Clinton with a silent diss towards Obama:
“As a child, Hillary Clinton was taught that all God’s children are equal, so as a mother she understood that her child wasn’t safe unless all children were safe.
I know what kind of president Hillary Clinton will be because I know who she is. Hillary Clinton has always been a strong woman and a passionate protector of families. For 35 years, that’s exactly what she has been doing.
Each generation of African Americans stands on the shoulders of those who came before. Today, the challenges facing us threaten the dreams we have had for our children. We need a president with the experience and strength to meet those challenges.
I am inspired by Hillary Clinton’s commitment and courage — a daughter, a wife, a mother — my girl.”
Why do all these old-time chitlin’ era civil rights leaders feel obligated to support and play puppet for the shady Clintons? As we saw in S.C., these old-timers are disconnected with what the people want. SMH.
“Hey Johnny, why you want to leave this good ole plantation, massa been good to us, you better support them good ole clintons, we don’t need no freedom”

T-Mobile gets jacked
T-Mobile gets jacked, around $8.2M in phones vanished like a David
Copperfield act
So here's what we just heard: one of T-Mobile's warehouses were broken
into over the weekend and around 36,000 phones were stolen! The phones
stolen are said to be worth around $8.2 million! Yeah peoples, not
fun. What's even crazier is that the majority of what was stolen were
the Sidekick devices. T-Mobile's actively tracking the IMEIs to see if
any are activated on their network and is said to be working with law
enforcement officials to trace the handsets to dealers that
potentially activate them. Totally insane! Here's the internal email
to T-Mobile dealers, after the jump!
"Wanted to let you all know that one of our warehouses was broken into
over the weekend and some 36,000 phones were stolen (worth about 8.2
Million). The most significant phones stolen were the Sidekick phones.
Please make sure you inform the dealers who like to purchase gray
market handsets that we are aggressively working with law enforcement
to prosecute anyone who has these handsets. We do know the IMEI's of
the stolen phones and once they end up on our network we will go to
the dealer code that activated the phone. So if your dealers get a
call about Sidekicks and the deal is too good to be true you will know
why."

BLACK PEOPLE WE NEED TO PAY ATTETION
I'm worried for this year and the American elections that are soon to come. As a black person in a raciest USA. I fear that if we finally do make history and put a Black man in the White House. THEY will KILL HIM....Now I couldn't tell you who the THEY is but that same group of people killed all our Black leaders that stand for something positive. Really the fact that he is Black isn't the reason , I mean look at JFK. If the wrong person is in power well THEY will remove them as fast as they build him up.
Lets Hope I am Wrong......
BLACK PEOPLE WE NEED TO PAY ATTETION
Tvoi Den, a Russian paper, published a story with the following headline: “Deripaska Gave Abramovich a Black Woman for $500,000.”
The sad news is that they were referring to Rihanna and her New Year’s Eve performance. The writer didn’t bother to mention her name until the end of the second paragraph.
Damn. You would think that she was on the auction block with a headline like that.

BLACK PEOPLE WE NEED TO PAY ATTETION
The state of New Jersey is in the process of being the first Northern state to express regret for slavery, but there are some local politicians that believe doing so is unimportant.
Republican Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll states that blacks should be happy that slavery happened, otherwise we would still be in Africa:
“But, on a current note, if slavery was the price that a modern American’s ancestors had to pay in order to make one an American, one should get down on one’s knees every single day and thank the Lord that such price was paid. To the extent that America — or New Jersey — ever owed any kind of debt to anyone, that debt was more than repaid through the blood and suffering of 650,000 federal soldiers who died or were wounded during the war provoked by slavery. No one today need feel the slightest guilt, as no one today participated in the wrong.”

NOT GOOD for MUSIC
This is one we’ve heard before. Jay-Z leaves Def Jam, starts revolutionary digital record label with Apple. The first part has already happened and now Boy Genius Report is saying that the label is definitely a go.
I can tell you that Jay flat out denied this when somebody asked him about it back in October. The folks over at Crunchgear are already calling bullshit on BGR’s rumor, but they also offer some more realistic possibilties.
I can’t tell you if this is actually going to happen or not, but I do know that the music industry needs some kind of earth shattering wake up call. This may or may not turn out to be it. Something needs to be done sooner rather than later.
"It’s not the music; people ingest music the same way. It’s just that the model of selling CDs has changed. So doing things the typical way is not in the best interests of anyone and not exciting for me." - Jay to Billboard last month.

Online music is bad for everyone. first off online record labels are not hard anybody can start a label and second the Internet has become the Major label in a way.. artist shouldnt be looking to be signed anytime soon.
The only people that matter in music is artist that create CONTENT or CONTENT controllers like managers or producers, online record labels dont need staff to run, so there goes more jobs lost. Advertising is the only thing that matters for online stores or online record labels.
Music online is also bad because the quality of music is at a all time low because artsit dont need to hit a studio anymore. Since everyone listens to music on myspace or MP3s , our EAR will get use too bad music sounding good.
